I was cleaning up my 27" to sell and discovered the network port wasn't working. End result is I pick it up from the repair shop tomorrow. Apple overnighted a shiny new logic board.
I still hate the size of the thing. So it's going to a new home. But I have the opportunity to trade it for a 21" 2011 (Thunderbolt port!) with slightly more than a year of AppleCare remaining.
What's my 27 worth considering the new logic board? Screen is great, non-smoking home, etc. Magic Mouse was never removed from the box. The keyboard has been dropped so if I sell it outright I'll have to get a new one of those or discount it accordingly.
27" is i3, 3.2, 4gb, 1TB but with the ATI Radeon HD 5750 with 1 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory. Everymac link
The 21" is a base model. i5, 2.5, 4gb, 500gb and Radeon 6750 with 512. Everymac
I already have a CalDigit TB Station. So I could use the 21" just as I'm currently using my 2012 cMBP: connected to a 24" Samsung monitor, USB 3 ministack, and Lacie 2Big thunderbolt. Hell, I could even just use the Lacie as the boot drive.
That would allow me to sell the 15" cMBP and pick up a new MBA or a base 13 retina. (since somebody will ask: I had to buy a computer before the end of August due to disability trust fund rules. So I bought one that was well over specced for what I wanted or needed. Since then two things have changed: The CalDigit was released and works great. And the 27" has the new logic board.)
