Google is rolling out AI-powered image editing capabilities to its Gemini app on iPhone, allowing users to modify both uploaded and AI-generated images directly within the app.

The new functionality enables background changes, object replacements, and element additions to existing photos. Users can upload personal images and prompt Gemini to generate variations, such as visualizing different hair colors or styles.

All images created or edited through Gemini will include invisible SynthID digital watermarking. Google says it is also testing visible watermarks for AI-generated content. The rollout is happening now and will expand to over 45 languages in the coming weeks, according to the company.

In another app improvement, Google told MacRumors that it is introducing Home Screen widgets for Gemini on iOS devices. The widgets provide immediate access to camera functions, file sharing, Gemini Live conversations, and microphone activation without opening the app. The widgets require iOS 17 or later and will be available to all eligible users by next week.

The standalone Gemini app launched for iPhone in November 2024, offering Dynamic Island integration and Gemini Live support as part of Google's effort to achieve feature parity with the Android version.

it still cant change its voice (from text) or show a photo of my house.
its like a baby ai still in the womb

Good to hear about this. Will be useful considering the current state of Apple Intelligence. But also expecting to hear some form of Gemini integration at WWDC.

They need to embrace Gemini, and we need to not have to hear the expression 'Apple Intelligence', maybe never again.

Mistakes happen. The Siri and Apple Intelligence monikers (the later which is actually an offensive term, having the same acronym 'AI' implying Apple invented it) are now unfortunate.

Considering I was 'ripped off', I'm wiling to settle this suit if Apple just stops bugging me with it.

And get my money's worth.

AI is not going to stop at just images, and I fear what’s going to happen in the next 20 years. With Project Stargate already getting $40 Billion out $500 , even the consumer level applications are getting scary. Who knows what’s happening in the Defense levels and Classified sectors

Kind of scary how well it works. Randomly asked it to create an image of German and Mexican men holding hands while walking their rescue dog at the beach. It even took the baldness (German) and Taco belly stereotypes into consideration! The give away is the deformed toes on each persons right foot.

Image Playground meanwhile turns me into a bald vampire with spikey teeth

What are we supposed to "do" with this, is what I can't figure out.

It is sad to see that they promote AI with fake imagery. Artificial intelligence can indeed be useful but automatic photoshop is like, extra imo.

This has been already a trend in photography, every major smartphone maker (incl. Apple) has embraced the “computational photography” kind of nonsense, i.e. we basically still have same smartphone picture quality as 8 or 10 years ago + more HDR + tons of noise reduction and sharpening makeups and in some smartphones even with “beauty mode”.

And why do manufacturers love it? Money. It saves them money. It is always cheaper to deploy algorithms than put actually good and quality camera lens. “Make that good, but not too good: we need something for next year” philosophy in the worx

I lost control of my wallet last week and ordered a Pixel 9 Pro XL then after I bitch slapped myself for spending monies I don't have (property taxes are due soon!) I returned it.

I was given a 12 month advanced Gemini trial with the purchase and they let me keep the trial! I am having fun with it! :)
