I had two step turned in so I turned it off thinking it was the issue. I also created app specific passwords and that didn't help. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!
 
Mine did not either. It took very long time on some items. Went with Sunrise Calendar from Store on iPhone and have instant syncing. Will keep this till I go 100% iOS calendars, if I ever do. My iCloud calendar doesn't update at all.

Hasn't been a problem for me. Two-step verification and app-specific passwords. I have one app-specific password for my iPhone and one for my iPad. That covers Calendar, Mail, and Notes.
