I normally use google chrome (especially at work with a Windows) and now that I have my macbook air, I want to still use it but i keep hearing that google chrome is a battery hog.

So is it? Should I just use google chrome on my MBA or just stick with Safari?

If you are on battery a lot, Chrome does use more battery power than Safari. You can test it yourself. Do a reboot then use each browser for a while, then look in this panel in Activity Monitor and you can see some power usage stats there to help you decide what you want to do.

You can see in my screenshot here where I used Chrome earlier today then quit the app.
