Google Chrome update problem

I'm having some problems with Chrome on Windows.

When I decided to check for an update through the About window, it simply cycles through "Checking for updates" and then an error 3 message pops up.

I've done numerous uninstallations and reinstallations. I even deleted the entire Google folder in the AppData folder.
