So I just installed GMail Notifier on Lion, and it doesn't seem to load when I click on its app icon. Is there some kind of an alternative for it which works the same way in the top bar of the OS? I'd prefer not to use browser or mail addons.

Yes, there's a great alternative that I've been using for awhile now called MailTab for G-Mail. It's available for free in the Mac appstore. I used to have G-Mail notifier installed and once Mailtab came around I never went back. Hope that helps.

Just install or reinstall the latest version. 1294 works fine in mine too.

Version 1.10.7.1294 works fine for me.

strange. i've uninstalled it using the latest appcleaner, reinstalled it, and it's working now.

Yes this is an old thread I know, but I just downloaded MailTab and have a question. Why can I not select the top (most recent) email in the MailTab window? All other messages can be read, checked, archived, etc., with the hand icon, but the mouse icon turns into an arrow over the top email. Any ideas?
