Holy **** :(

Sorry for the ignorance, as I don't watch television and only read news on the internet, but are the actual buildings under water? I know the small ones probably are to some degree, but it looks like I'm staring at an aerial of Atlantis or something.

If it IS that messed up, and the photo is tinged blue for the reason I think it is, then... :(

This is a really a tragedy ...

My parents went to NO for vacation in April, and fell in love with the city. We were planning to take a family vacation there, the first one in years, on this December... now we'll be in line to go there as soon as they manage to get the city back on its feet.

My thoughts go to all the victims and their families.

But who knows? Probably they won't rebuild the city at the same place... I've probably missed my chance to visit New Orleans..

The company I work for is seaking a project now for mapping the destruction via photogrammetry and LiDAR down south. The logistics are a real concern, as we need power to charge batteries, gas to travel, places to stay...

We'd make this photography look like a joke.

This is just sad. :(

Yes. Have an uncle who'd been there, and loved the place. Made me want to visit it too, if I ever were in the US. Too late now, I guess :(

So sad. :(

I pray multiple times a day for the victims of this tragedy.

I am pretty sure that they will rebuild in exactly the same place. Just better. Most of the business district and the french quarter did not get flooded as badly so rebuilding there should not be as hard. As for the rest, they will probably tear it all down and start over from the ground up. Who knows they may use the rubble and debris to help raise it to a higher elevation. You can bet they will plan on category 8 hurricanes (yeah I know there is no such thing) when rebuilding the levees.
