Google Maps Background Refresh

Hey guys, I have been wondering what will google maps use background app refresh for ? Maps already works when the iPhone is locked without app refresh turned on.

I guess it will be only for tracking in the background so as to have instant lock on the location whenever the app is opened ?

So far background refresh makes no significant difference to me in any of the apps that I use, especially when there is a fast chip and connection. In fact, it has caused a few apps to freeze. So I just turned the whole thing off.

Anybody notice any big improvement in terms of usage and convenience? Which apps?

I just turned it on today and that too for only the gmail app, as it is too slow to load up the emails, but if I notice any useless battery drain, will turn it off.

Still wondering what will gMaps do with background app refresh
