CarPlay Google Maps interrupting Music... driving me Crazy

Okay before I traded in my iPhone 13 Pro Max for the 16 Pro Max. I upgraded to iOS 18 and for some reason when using CarPlay when google maps play an announcement. it stops the music to make an announcement then plays my music until the next announcement and so on and its driving me nuts.

Same thing with my 16 Pro Max. Both my vehicles is a 2021 Range Rover Velar and a 2019 Ram 2500... same issues but in my Ram it stops the music and I have to unpause it

All the usual settings that may cause this isn't on so is it some setting with iOS 18 ?

Probably a bug with Google Maps and iOS18. Google doesn’t offer a detailed change log when they update their apps so it’s hard to know if they’ve updated for iOS 18 changes yet or not.

If I'm understanding your post correctly, you can fix this by muting the Google Maps audio from within the app. In CarPlay there should be a speaker icon near the lower right corner of the map shown on the vehicle's display. Worked for me with both 15PM on iOS 17 and 16PM on iOS 18.
