I regularly use my iPhone 6 Plus in landscape orientation while using Google Maps as a gps in my car. However whenever I use the task switcher to switch to another app, then switch back to Google Maps, it revers to displaying the app in portrait mode (sideways). Anyone else notice this? I just want to confirm it's a bug...just updated yesterday to the new Google Maps and it still behaves like this...:(

iOS 8 rotation bug. Even if the app happens to default to portrait it should recognize that it's in landscape and switch. But it doesn't behave like that since iOS 8. Not sure if 8.2 has fixed this.

Yeah it does that. I just go to app switcher again and you'll see it rotate, then go back..

thanks for confirming it's not just me...I'm on 8.1.2 fwiw.

Strange to think it's an iOS bug since all the Apple apps behave fine in this regard, as do other 3rd-party apps.

FWIW I just found a work-around for those who are jailbroken. The free tweak "Portrait Lock" allows you to assign an orientation (portrait or landscape) to an app to override the iPhone's physical orientation. When I assign Google Maps to landscape, then switch out of the app to another app, then switch back to it, it maintains the correct landscape orientation.
