If there is, I'd like to know also, I don't believe there is, it's something that all the Apps do, it's supposed to act as an energy conservation method but it happens at the most inoppurtune times..

You mean when the phone goes back to locked? It's because you have autolock set to 1 minute.

Not a great solution but you can change Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock to never before you start tracking in google maps.

with GPS on and 3G to load the maps fast enough while you drive AND auto lock to never have fun getting 30 min of battery life to boot :apple:

Right, but there's no way to do it just for the Google map app, correct?

I know of Auto-Lock, but Auto-Lock affects how ALL apps behave, correct?

So setting Auto-Lock to never for example, would mean the phone never Auto-Locks, bye bye battery life..

You battery bashers are insane... I leave push/3G/GPS on all day long and listen to music, play with apps, email, talk & use the map to track me while I'm driving around and have never had the battery die on me during the day. I typically end the day with over 5 hours of use, 17 hours of standby and about 20% battery life remaining... Slightly more impressive then my G1 iPhone. I don't surf the net with 3G constantly though, perhaps that's why I see better battery life with this one...
