I'm trying decide whether I not I want to use Google or Apple apps such as docs etc for spread sheets and the like.

What are advantages and disadvantages of both platforms?

That really depends on what you're going to be doing. You can use Google Docs on more platforms in an offline fashion than iWork in iCloud. On the other hand, it's not quite as polished as iWork is. I've had quite a few problems using Google Drive recently with a phantom cursor.

They blame Mavericks.

Both cost the same.

So, in my opinion, it's polish vs cross-platform.

A decent native app can offer a much richer experience than a decent web app. I use some google services, but i use them through native apps. mail.app for gmail, gcal for calander etc. Google drive integrates well with OSX too, you can always store your docs in gdrive and only use gdocs when you don['t have your computer or wish to collaborate
