Google this week announced that the Google app for iOS now supports Auto Dark Mode on compatible iPhones and iPads.

Auto Dark Mode will ensure that dark mode is on regardless of the website that you're browsing using the app's built-in browser, but Google warns that the quality of the conversion to dark mode can vary. Websites with an existing dark theme will default to that instead of using Google's new dark mode option.

With Auto Dark Mode activated, the Google app will automatically swap over to the dark theme for websites whenever Dark Mode on your Apple device is activated.

The feature was previously available through Search Labs, but it is now rolling out to all users. The option can be activated by tapping on the three dots in the upper right corner when visiting a website.

The Google app is free to download from the App Store. [Direct Link]

That’s good that more apps are continuing to support dark mode

I’ve read articles online that say that dark mode significantly impacts battery life - sometimes adding around 20 to 30% extra battery usage (on a single charge) so I try to enable dark mode on as many of my applications as possible

The one application that I really wish would enable dark mode is the Amazon shopping app. For whatever reason, Amazon has not updated their main Amazon shopping app (on the iPhone) to support dark mode, even though most other companies have already updated their apps to allow dark mode to be enabled so I really wish that Amazon would eventually implement dark mode on their main Amazon shopping app

I'm glad there is a choice, but I cannot use dark mode due to astigmatism. I just wish there was better light modes like there used to be. Light mode should be more muted than the blinding whites that are now common.

How do you set Siri not to use Google as a search engine, I know how to change it in Safari but you can’t change it for Siri look ups? 📱

It uses Safari’s default search engine, as far as I can tell. Siri uses Bing for me, unless I am just crazy or something.

Edit: I’m crazy. Sorry, nothing to see here.

Yay now you can view articles in the Google app in dark mode AND riddled with ads. I don’t know how anyone uses this app. Reading sites with an ad blocker is a necessity

Will have to use this and try. Not sure whether it will work as advertised. Also prefer to have manual control.
