The move isn't a surprise. Google demonstrated Street View on a phone using the company's Android operating system in May, hooked into the phone's hardware so the view would change according to which way the user oriented the phone. The Android phones are due to be announced Sept. 23.

quoted from that cnet article. btw i'm assuming the iphones can't guess which way you're facing (NSEW) unless you're moving correct?

Even if you were moving, the phone wouldn't quite know which way it's facing. It would need a compass for that.

'Cause, if you're facing East in a train headed West ....

As well as an iPhone I have a Blackberry too (work provided) and the new version of Google Maps is available for that (Google Maps for Blackberry v 2.3.1)

It works very nicely but with my searches in London I couldn't get any Street Views. I guess it only works with major US locations at the moment.

I did a side by side test of the new Google Maps for Blackberry and Google Maps on my iPhone running 2.1. I used the Locate Me feature to map my location and then did a search for hotels.

The iPhone Google Map brought back just 2 results for hotels near my location whereas the new Google Maps for Blackberry brought up 8 results.

So the search engine on the new Google Maps has improved. I expect that the new Google Maps will be available in the next iPhone firmware update.

Well if you can move east while the train is moving west, let me know, so I can pay you a lot of money.

moving one direction while facing another

He said facing east while moving west - so the GPS would know that you were moving west, but you'd need a compass for it to know that you were actually facing east.

Do I get the money?
