Only you can prevent drunk emailing.

Google released a useful new Gmail feature yesterday in its labs, which could help prevent the intoxicated from sending embarrassing late-night emails they might regret in the morning.

When activated, the program will force a user to solve a series of math problems before allowing any message to be sent.

They are not terribly difficult, but do serve as an extra line of defense in what can be a very dangerous habit.

The service is set by default to kick in only on weekend nights, but you can change the settings to apply whenever.

As for drunk dialing and texting, you’re still on your own.

Please work on drunk texting, I sent a text to my (girl) flatmate the other night saying "Trott took me home, you should come save me ;)" that was a awkward breakfast...

I've never sent am embarrassing email or text that I can recall but I have sent some incomprehensible ones, one memorable one being, upon leaving a club for a friend's birthday: "Hey man happy bday sory if di sai godbye but slir oa t the ghxpes yo tomorow"... or something along the lines of that.

Good idea, but it just seem like such a rudimentary solution. They should build in a breathalizer in the next MBP and you'd be all set.

Maybe some people just need to change their habits, instead of depending on a program to limit potential embarrassment.
Isn't that kind of like enabling someone to continue drinking until their butt falls out from under them every weekend? With no consequences befalling them online, I guess people will have to stick with embarrassing situations in real-life instead.

Yay. Pass the tequila! :p
