i like it; it's reliable. the only thing i don't like is that if a text message comes while the phone is off, i won't get the message when i turn the phone back on. is that just me? i've also read about people not getting text messages randomly, but i haven't had any such issues.

Does it still create separate threads for texts from the same person like in Google Voice?

i'm not exactly sure what you're talking about. is it an issue where someone texts you and you get alerted twice with two separate threads? if that's the case, i imagine you'd have to turn off text forwarding in your google voice preferences.

the one question i really want to know is will it work under ios 6. his website has no mention of it, and it still referes to ios 5 as "new." further, his twitter feed stopped abruptly in may.

I was referring to how Google Voice doesn't unify texts from the same person. On iMessages, if the same person texts you on two different days (or from two different conversations), everything is unified into one thread (under that contact's name).

In GV: if there is more than one conversation (even if it is the same person) you get two different threads in your inbox.

I was wondering if you use the Google Voice extension, will the iMessages inbox unify all threads from the same person, regardless of which conversation it is.

Thanks. I hope this is supported for io6.

I am against jailbreaking generally (had bad experiences before) but I will do it just for this functionality.

When was the last time you jailbroke? Jailbreaking has been extremely stable on iOS5. At least for me. iOS5 along with all compatible cydia software has been superb. I've only had a few crashes on my 4S since they first released the original absinthe.

If you decide to install more than just the GV Extension, just read up on the packages you want to install and make sure they're compatible with iOS5. Almost all of the popular packages have been updated and are very stable. If there's an old tweak you liked and it's not updated for iOS5, there's a chance that someone else created the same/similar tweak. good luck! Hopefully you don't have as bad of an experience as you did last time. Oh and stay away from cracked apps and tweaks. I'm not sure, nor do I care, if that's your preferred method of acquiring the software. I only say stay away because they can be VERY unstable and will cause you annoying problems. There are some great threads here at macrumors where everyone lists their favorite tweaks.

I jailbroke my Gf's 4 last year. Like my old 3GS, it was never the same again. Random bugs, lags, freezing, etc.

My 3GS was the worst. I remember downloading a song while it was jailbroken, and it never showing up again as purchased after I restored the phone to stock. Also alot more lags, bugs, freezes; and the whole springboard/winterboard thing was atrocious. Cydia was a mess and the overall experience was not befitting of an iphone.

I have several friends that agree that jailbreaking does do something (negative) to the phone. I just don't trust it.

We're running two 3GS iPhones JB'ed with few issues. Usually a problem can be traced to a wonky tweak. We're both running the GV extensions just fine.

I've never installed Winterboard as it seems extraneous. Anything that is mostly for looks I avoid. The 3GS is limited in RAM and those things eat it up.

I contacted the creator, asking, "Has there been any testing on iOS 6 yet? Will the GV SMS & Phone extensions work?"

His answer was, "We will be working on it." make of that what you will :p
No iOS 6 for me until I get my Google Voice extensions!

I'm stuck using the lame google voice app since I got the iPhone 5. I can't wait to go back to the gv SMS and gv phone extensions!

Any news on this? I'm hurting from the upgrade! The phone gv extension has been working for me, just without pass-through of address book names. SMS gv extension is not working at all.

Would love to hear if anyone has worked a solution to the sms gv extension incompatibility with ios 6.

Same here, I am jail broken but SMS GV Extension or Phone Extension are not compatible with io6. Is this coming? anyone else waiting on these GV extensions?
