Hello,
I am currently using Google Voice as my main number. I understand that officially it is not possible to associate your Google Voice number to your iMessage / Facetime account. However, my phone is jailbroken, and I think there must be a way? Is there any way to change the phone number associated to iMessage? Any app / tweak or file I could modify?
Thanks

iMessage and FaceTime verify your phone number by sending an SMS to a certain number. If that SMS arrives at that number with your Google Voice number as the source, it should work. But I suspect it'll just be sent with your regular number.

The "SMS GV Extension" can take over your regular SMS for your phone. That is, SMS messages sent will be from the Google Voice number. If you have iMessage on, I believe iMessage would work in the usual way...messages to other iMessage recipients would go via iMessage. But in the case where iMessage fails, the message would be sent via your phone's number and not Google Voice. At least I think that's what happens on mine.

Interesting. Can anyone try this and let me know if this works? I would like to have imessage on my google voice phone.

SMS GV extension and iMessage

Mine seems to use GV for all numbers except those connected to iMessage. It sends my texts as GV to most people but uses my carrier number to message friends with iMessage. They get confused because that's not the number they have for me, but I've kept an eye and I know most of my texts get sent via GV so it's still working.

I can confirm that the GV SMS extension works on my phone without ever costing me for texts. If the recipient has iMessage it will send a message using iMessage and they will get it via my carrier number (which because they have iMessage is free). When they don't have iMessage it sends via GV. I use the same app to send the messages on my end (biteSMS), and it is seamlessly integrated so that I don't have to keep track of who has what. When my friends have switched to iPhones without me knowing it, iMessage has automatically taken over and started sending to them, too; it caused a little confusion for those who had my GV number previously.:apple::cool:
