GoPro charging problem

I just bought a new 21.5 imac a few weeks ago. I went to charge my GoPro 3 silver with the provided usb cord. After a few seconds, a box pops up telling me that the usb has been disabled bc its drawing too much power. I find this to be pretty lame. Is there a fix to this?
