Dammit.
great author, and one of the last people alive who knew Amelia Earhart. There were a lot of things I agreed with him on, and vehemently disagreed with him on, but the guy had style. He'll be missed.

Gore Vidal will be sorely missed for his insight and his wit. An author that I'd rate along side of James Baldwin.

An interesting, challenging, sometimes infuriating, but always stimulating man.
Listening to him during an interview when I was quite young stimulated me to set about enlarging my vocabulary and making a concerted effort to speak in a clear, articulate, and interesting fashion. I am very far from coming close to equalling his skills, but I have learned a bit of my own language. To him I owe thanks for the influence he (unknowingly) had on my life.
