So got 4 iPhones to update to 4.2 - is there anyway to somehow download 4.2 and then update each phone in turn - rather than having to "Download and Update" when I connect each phone - and iTunes then proceeding to spend an age downloading the whole frikin thing each time???

Thanks!

the update is saved on your hard disk when you download it after you connect the first phone. subsequent phones connected will verify that the ios firmware file on your computer is the latest with the apple servers (which it should be) before proceeding to update the phone.

If all four phones are the same model, ie iphone 4's. You only need to download the firmware once.

Actually it's worse that I thought ! This is what I need to update (family plus brothers/sister in law etc):

3 X iPhone 4

2 X iPhone 3GS

1 x iPhone 3G

2 X iPad

2 X iPod Touch 4G

AAAGHH - probably 5 different firmware downloads!

a) Tell them to download it them frigging selves! There's such a thing as being too helpful...

b) Do they even need the updated firmware? Don't bother..

This. Seriously, I'm a good guy, but I'd probably only update the people who live in my house, anyone else I'll be glad to send instructions to.

I plugged in my iPhone 4, and started to download the Firmware, then I plugged in my sisters iTouch 4, and it told me to wait to download her Firmware until mine was fininshed.. looks like you're going to have to wait.

The iPod Touch and iPhone updates are clearly going to be different files.

:p
