Prior to the introduction of the new MB Pros, I bought a new widescreen monitor to reclaim some desk space from the two 27-inch Cinema/Thunderbolt displays I was using.

I got this

Dell U3821DW 37.5" 21:9 Curved IPS Monitor (Silver)

as I liked the USB-C hub and single cable connection, and the specs seemed pretty good for my main use case. Long hours of office apps, with need for multiple windows side by side. I added a Logitech 1080p camera for Zoom meetings. I was thinking about getting another for home, but they, like everything, are backordered.

So, with the new Macs on their way, more powerful graphics and a HDMI port along with MagSafe, are there other monitors that you've got your eye on with better specs and/or pricing? For me, I am looking for a widescreen that is sharp and smooth. I guess with MagSafe, it is not as imperative to have USB-C power, but I do like the single cable aspect and am not worried about rapid charging while at a desk. I also want a "hub" like the Dell has to keep things tidy and allow for the fact that I have several peripherals to connect at home--like a DSP, an external disk for TimeMachine, etc. I don't game, so that's not a factor.

Then you should aim for a substantially higher pixel density (ppi) than that 3840×1600 ultrawide provides. Font rendering is awful (fuzzy/blurry/not sharp) in macOS on low-resolution/low-ppi monitors.

The only ultrawides that have a sufficiently high ppi and resolution to make macOS enable the HiDPI modes with their vastly better font rendering are those with a 5120×2160 resolution. There’s a couple 34” and 40” models that fit the bill.
