Heya

I'm upgrading from a first-gen iPhone to a 3G. I've unboxed it, restored it in iTunes and now it sits on Awaiting Activation.

It's been there since around 5:30pm, now 7:30pm.

Of curious note (my EDGE phone is still alive, and has full signal), the 3G Phone awaiting activation is showing No Service. Is that normal for a phone requiring activation?

Shut Down and Re-Start

Don't know how you got one without having it activated in Apple Store or ATT.

But anyhow. Shut down completely and re-start. Should re-acquire

Did you get a new sim card with it? Put your sim out of the 1st gen in the 3g and then connect to itunes.

You can buy online now. It doesn't have to be activated in the store.

It came with a new SIM, I assumed it would be preconfigured... good call. Swapped sims and the phone came up instantly!

We spent 1 1/2 hours at Best Buy tonight waiting for my wife's to go through. Best Buy told us the AT&T servers are messed up and it had been taking forever all day.

I know you are all set but for the others looking for the fix.

As of Feb. 16, 2009. The iPhone 3G that is now available from AT&T Online is activated before it is shipped. However, the SIM is not activated. You can reuse your existing SIM, activate it Online with the link below or with Customer Care.

SIM Activation: https://www.wireless.att.com/activations/
