I believe so.

They may be a bit late, but at least they are letting their customers know.

I got a text as well, I also got a text from ATT C/O the CDC telling me not to drink my water and to boil it lol although my towns water is fine.....lol!

Yep, got mine about 4:00pm today in California. My brother in Hawaii (T-Mobile unlocked, jailbroken) didn't hear from anyone and he's afraid to download 2.1 firmware. He'll wait until 2.1 firmware is unlocked and jailbroke...

You have to understand that readers of this forum and ones like it are the minority. Most people with iphones probably didn't even know that Apple was having the announcement last week.

I didn't get a text from AT&T this time. Did anyone get this message after they updated?

I got one too last night.. But it's not too late.. If they would have sent a text on sept. 9 that the new firmware was released their servers would have been so congested

Perhaps Apple should look into a better notification system for firmware updates-- it is kinda annoying to be interrupted by an AT&T text message telling me that I should go grab a firmware update I already have.

Perhaps a exclaimation-point indicator over the Settings icon, or something?

omg, you're so high maintenance. stop complaining about a FREE text message aimed at HELPING YOU.

Yea, I know a huge minority have no clue that there is an update for their iPhone. I see it everyday when I sell an iPhone or someone comes in with one.

I work for the good ol' AT and T here in Des Moines, Iowa in wireless sales :)

Yes. I updated within an hour of release and got the text yesterday afternoon.

I think it's a good thing, both that they send out the message, and that they send it several days after it's available.

That "huge minority" should get caught up gradually over the next 2 weeks, when iTunes automatically checks for new software and lets them know about the update.

isn't that a contradiction...?

Yes :p. Let me rephrase that. The majority have no idea...

With the fixes and new features that each update brings, why make your customers wait a week or two for it when they can have it now? Especially with this past update fixing major issues, you want people to know about it now.

With the text-message-repetition feature of 2.1: Yes, it can be.

Would you want Apple to e-mail you for each and every Software Update for OS X? Maybe you do. I don't.

... And right after I posted that, I got an e-mail from Apple.

'Get the iPhone 2.1 software update today.'

Seriously?
