My girlfriend has just brought an iphone and i've had one since launch (UK)
I've Been helping her set it up and just noticed that she can change the clock from 24 hour to 12 and i can't we're both running the same version of the software is this something they have changed in the hardware of the phone??
am confused would love to know how i can change mine?

What is your location set to in settings?

Make sure it's the same as hers.

Settings > General > Date & Time

did that there the same i thought the same thing??
bit of a mystery

right have just changed it to 24 hour off went to home screen was not 12 hour so went back to settings and now the 24 hour on/off is greyed out like mine all a bit odd!!

ok new development when it's on the screen lock screen the date on my girlfriends (on left) is 12 hour but all time on main menu screen clock etc is 24 hour and the date is in a different format?? you can just about see on this bad isight shot(will get a better one tomorrow).

Any ideas what's going on?

oh also my screen looks more yellow it's got a protective screen on but should not make that much difference have i got a duff screen?

yup checked it all all the same?
and both region format example at the bottom the same so must be set the same?!

If I set mine to United Kingdom, it looks exactly like the phone on the right, 24 hour time format an all.

When I set mine to United States, it looks like the phone on the left.

i know it's crazy can't work it out the 24 hour switch is now on and grayed out so can't change it so the screen lock is set to a different time format than the rest of the phone.
must be a bug or something bit worried about my screen looks really yellow next to hers might take it into an apple store see what they say?!

genius bar pah clueless more like!!

so went to the apple store regents street (london) to talk about the fact that my screen was very yellow compared to my girlfriends new iphone.
So he has a look compares it with his admits its a bit more yellow than his but says not much wrong with it, so i ask him if it could be the negative black problem that the iphones have had... blank look on his face he says "what's negative black?" so I'm a bit taken a back that he has no idea what I'm talking about so explain what it is he still does not get it so I give up.
I then ask him about the problem with the 24 hour clock thing on my girlfriends iphone it being 12h on screen lock but 24h on home page he has no idea says it could be the way her mac is set up to display the date and time??
so I ask him when the uk iphones will be able to switch the 24h clock setting off another blank look on his face so I show him and he's amazed he'd never heard of that problem...
Now this is my first trip to see a "genius" and I have to say I'm unimpressed I get better knowledge from you guys on here I'm not going to waste my time again i'll just post on here!!!:):):D:apple:

I did and there both the same on computer and on the Iphone must just be one of those strange apple quirks?:apple:

if you haven't re-set or re-booted the iPhones in all of your testing that could be it. In fact it's the beginning of any serious troubleshooting attempt.

I've not reset the iphone not that much of a big deal to go through the hassle of that, but did turn it off and back on again and the time on the lock screen is now the same as the rest of the phone 24h never to be 12h again until apple sort it out on the next update! thats that quirk solved.

In regards to the geniuses not knowing about the problem, Apple does not usually release news about minor problems such as the problem that you are having with the yellow, and since it was released as news to the Geniuses, they have to act like they have never heard of it, even though they may have.

I'd restore both devices before labelling this a quirk tbh.

A restore's easily done if you're synced up to your main machine.

I was not supprised that he had not seen the yellow tint it was the fact that he did not
(a) know about the negative black issue on some iphones and itouch screens
and (b) he did not know or had not noticed that you could not change a uk iphone from 24h to 12h.

having restored it or not i'd class the time being different on the lock screen to the rest of the phone a quirk wether or not it rectifies it's self after a restart.
Maybe we have a different understanding on the use of the word quirk?

Thanks for the advice on restore i will worry less about it next time i might need to do it.
