After having my less than 2 year old Epson Stylus CX6600 printer die on me a few days ago I did some research online what would be a good replacement.
I figured with the volume that I print a laser printer would be the way to go, but I really did need color for some of the reports and such that I print.
Prices for color lasers tend to be pretty extreme.
Luckily Samsung have come to my rescue by recently introducing the CLP-300 series.

I picked one up yesterday and have to say that I am very satisfied. As expected the black text printing is spot on. Absolutely perfect. Color however, has also surprised me. The dithering you get with some earlier color lasers is hardly noticable. Sure its not as good as a photo inkjet, but by all means is good enough for tables and graphs and other diagrams.

I paid 300 euros for the none networked version. I could have got it cheaper online but nobody had it in stock. Seeing as I was printerless I was left with no choice but to pay a bit more. The networked version, at first, was attractive, but seeing as we can all network our printers easily through OSX you're actually just paying a premium for something you can already do.

Toner is split of three seperate catridges. They retail for around 35-40 euros each and should last somewhere around 2000 pages (for black anyway).

Print speed is up to par with most inkjets at 16 ppm for black, but noticably slower with color in the documents (i'd say its somewhere around 5 ppm for composite documents). Warm up time is acceptable at 15 secs approx (when coming out of standby mode).

The sheet feeder drawer holds up to 150 sheets of paper. This is fine for a consumer, but I suspect not quite enough for small businesses.

Besides that, the printer has a really nice small footprint (smaller than my outgoing Epson CX6600). Its marketed as the smallest color laser printer in the world. :) Works for me!

The included software is universal. It allows you to control some of the printer settings. As usual feature support for Mac is somewhat limited. Features like poster printing and such are limited to Windows only. Maybe future updates will solve this though.

All in all a great printer for those that demand lower cost high volume printing, but don't want to give up color printing altogether.

Just thought I'd give you guys an impression of this great machine.
