As the title says:
I used it twice: once for a broken screen and once for a dead phone.
After one year they refunded me 55.10. Best deal ever!

You are very lucky considering it can only be used twice.
It can only be used twice for accidents.
My second one was not an accident, just a phone failure (it stopped receiving emails and phone calls).

My first one, btw, they didn't count against me. It was not long after launch while they were still spouting "dont use a screen protector". I reminded them of that.

Interesting, nonetheless very cool.

I sincerely hope that you didn't sell your phone to someone under the pretense that it was still covered under Applecare only to have it cancelled after the sale. If so, that is a real dick move.

WTF??? I didn't say I did that, I didn't suggest I did that, and NO I didn't do that.
I sold it to Amazon.

Pretty douchey to do period.
You use it twice and then call them for a refund after a year. And come on here to boast about

I don't get what's douchey about it. It was clearly within Apple's policy to allow a refund in this situation, it's not like the OP ripped anyone off. If anything, this thread is useful information for people who are selling their phones before their Applecare expires. I for one, appreciate this thread.

Technically, neither instance applied for using AppleCare+ the way it was meant to be used. Therefore, his pro-rated refund was perfectly fine to request. The instances that were used fall under the coverage of standard AppleCare warranty which comes free with the phone.

:DYou have an odd sense of what's "douchy". Ps: it was apple they suggested I ask for a refund or move it to my next phone when I was purchasing my upgrade. THEY showed me the website. THEY told me how to do it. But thanks for the random insults guys. lol. :D

To be fair your OP was quite vague, how would anyone know that you sold it to Amazon? Defensive much?
Not defensive, nor vague, actually. Just wondered why you opened with such an assumption. Do most folks you know cheat people? Bummer for you.

Thanks for the post, as well. You mention above that they showed you the web site and how to do it - can you post that? I normally hold onto my Apple devices beyond their AppleCare coverage, but may be updating a MacBook Pro early.

People need to stop assuming. You know what they say...
The OP never once said he sold it under the false pretense that it's under warranty.

Also, Apple willingly gives prorated refunds for AppleCare that is no longer of any use (you no longer own the device, lost it, broke it, etc...). I got a check for the AppleCare on my MacBook Pro that Apple replaced for a newer one. No hassle. I called and they sent me to the correct department, and I got a check about 3 weeks later.

I was thinking of doing this since I just sold my 4S. It's unused and it's 2 weeks shy before I hit the 1 year mark. The seller lives in Taiwan, so I'm sure it will be of no use or will it? I've heard conflicting info.

This was the website the guy at the store gave me:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HE52?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

From there I had to look up the info on my phone and call. Took a couple of weeks start to finish. Very nice folks.
