iPod touch Got this far, and now STUCK!!

What you will want to do is open the "etc" directory of the disk image and replace the fstab file with the fstab file we were supplied with when we downloaded iPHUC. Once you have done that, you can eject the disk image and start the process of blasting the OS back to the iPod.

To send the newly modified OS back to the iPod, execute this command from within iPHUC:

putfile iphonefs/rdisk0s1.dmg /dev/rdisk0s1




Got to this point in step two - then put the above command to terminal (iPhuc )

but got this response:


putfile: Failed to open remote file: 11
(iPHUC) /:




Any thoughts - cheers
 
Bugger - quit terminal, with the thought of restoring my iPod and starting again.

But my iTunes now fails to recognize the iPod, so a bit frustrated at the moment. Any other ways to restore it? If so I'll start again and report:(

Activating Recovery Mode

Connect the iPod Touch to your computer.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. The iPod Touch will reset. Keep holding the buttons down for 20-25 seconds. Do not release the buttons during the reboot process.
A screen should appear with an icon indicating you should connect your iPod Touch to iTunes. iTunes should open by itself; if it does not, open it.
A dialog box should appear in iTunes saying "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.You must Restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." Dismiss the box and on the iPod page click Restore. iTunes will then download the image and restore the iPod Touch to its factory default.
 
Got that thanks - am in the process of re-trying the jailbreak - I'll keep the Terminal readout and report back -

Ooook....some progress - I restored the iPT, etc, and went htrough all the processes again, and all went well with iNdependence.

Move to the SSH tab under INdependence and click Install SSH/SFTP/SCP. Follow the directions they give you, which will be rebooting twice. Once complete, reboot once more using Slide to Power Off.

To confirm that you have SSH running, type the following command:

ssh -l root your.ipods.ip.address

Now when I typed ssh -l root xx.xxx.xxx.xxx, this is what I got (iPhuc terminal window )

(iPHUC) /: ssh -l root xx.xxx.xxx.xxx
shell: No such command 'ssh'

I went on to the Cyberduck phase, but could not connect.It timed out - is it on wireless when connecting - should it be connected by usb to my computer.




On a side note, the last time I tried, and this time, my capacity on the iPT went from 16 gig down to 300mb only:eek::eek::eek: When I restored it last time it went back to 16gig. Now I've gone through the hack again its back down to 300mb - hope this is temprary / normal:eek:
 
Did that and got a new terminal window - seemed to go ok

Glad about 300mb:D

Still stuck on Cyberduck connection - using root / alpine as UN LI


ITunes now 'sees' my iPT

I feel sooo close
 
Yeah I'm following both the written and photo guides, and this is where I'm loosing it.

Should iPT be plugged into my Macbook pro via usb cable r should I be doing this strictly over wireless?

I had my touch plugged in to keep a constant flow of power just in case. The SSHing and everything is done over Wifi.

Port 22 is the correct port. Is your router forwarding port 22 to another location?

New problem - I'm at stage:

Files you need:
Installer.app- http://iphone.nullriver.com/zips/Installer-2.63.zip

Using SFTP, copy Installer.app to the Applications folder located under the root folder. You will then need to connect via SSH in Terminal to your iPod again. From above:

ssh -l root your.ipods.ip.address
NOTE: Do not take this command literally. First find out your iPod's ip address under Wireless Settings and replace the phrase "your.ipods.ip.address" with the actual iPod ip address.

Once connected to your iPod, run the following commands to open Installer.app on your iPod. We're also going to get a CHMOD out of the way because it's convenient:

I successfully installed installer.app, but when I try to login using terminal, it shows the following:

All well and good, but when I go to type in the password ( alpine ), the keyboard fails to type ( like Terminal no longer accepts input ) - and I did check that number locks was off!!
 
To make sure nobody can see how many characters you type, passwords aren't shown in terminal.

Just type it and push enter when you're done.

EDIT: and when you log into your iPod sucessfully after that password, change your password by entering passwd

EDIT EDIT: Don't forget your new password!!!
 
Shanesan - your a star. Up and running:D:D:D - I will do a search, but one final question - where can I get a mail app, and the other actual iphone apps.
