GPS info not imported in Aperture 3?

When I import RAW files (.NEF) with sidecar XMP files in Aperture 3, the location information is not extracted from the XMP file. Is this expected behavior?

Importing these photos with Lightroom works fine. Lightroom extracts the GPS location info just fine.
