GPS location app in background possible with i4?

My buddy has a driod and is able to constantly have his location updated on Google Latitude. I would like to be able to do this with my friends. Will the background capability of my soon to be aquired i4 allow me to do this with Latitude or some other app?

Nobody knows how to do this? My girlfriend and I have our iPhones now and we would like to be able to easily look at eachothers location at any given time. Any way to do it?

Background GPS is only for receiving data.

I don't think there's an API that allows an app to constantly send out data. The closest thing would be task completion, but I highly doubt that can be used for that.

Or so it seems!
