The sapphire front crystal is available only on the stainless steel and ceramic models of Apple Watch. The Apple Watch Sport and Nike Apple Watch Sport both feature Ion-X front glass.

Is that right that sapphire glass is not available on any Series 3 GPS only watch?

Sapphire is only available on the stainless steel and ceramic version.

Stainless steel and ceramic is only available with LTE.

So yes. No GPS only version with sapphire available.

Thank you. Hmm. Was going to upgrade to an non LTE version for battery life but my ION screen is scratched to hell, so I wanted sapphire.

I know but that involves LTE, a watch bolt-on contract and possibly a hit on battery life. Not sure I’m prepared to make that jump.

Then don't provision it. Just buy the watch and don't activate the cellular radio. Then it'll just function like a GPS only watch. (You're paying more, but then you get the stainless steel body and sapphire lens).

Wonderful. Let's all pay the premium that the SS version already has as well as paying for the lte extra you also don't want.

I wonder if I don’t provision it, will the watch drive me mad with prompts to provision it?

Heh. No-one's going to be able to answer that until they have one of these. :)

It certainly shouldn't light up the cellular radio without being provisioned (it won't know what frequencies to "hunt" on - as there's no carrier profile).

That's presuming that you buy it in the Apple store....if you buy it from one of the carriers, those slippery buggers may have already done some provisioning with the eSIM. I'd only buy it directly from Apple. :)

You can activate cellular service on Apple Watch by following the instructions during the initial setup, or later by opening the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tapping My Watch, then tapping Cellular.

Follow the instructions to learn more about your carrier service plan and activate your Apple Watch for LTE.
