So, GPS tracking apps use a hell of a lot of battery power.

Can anybody give me some to try out that allow you to specify the frequency that they update location?

Track-O-Meter seems OK, I can have it update every few seconds all the way through to hourly, although I really hate their interface for reviewing after that - it's a paid service that uses their website and I can't seem to be able to export .gpx files or anything like that. For accurate GPS tracking I use GPS Kit Pro, and until it was broken by iOS 6/iPhone 5, I use GPS Tracks.

Using iOS 6 on an iPhone 5 here.

Thanks :)

There are three that I have used : Waze which is free, Mapquest which is free and GPS Drive witch doesn't cost much.
All three have in app purchases for different voices and so on. I'm not sure if it's Waze or Mapquest, but you can dump all the files and add new ones without a charge. Play around with the free ones, because they all have different options.
