Nowadays GPU is used for much more than just playing games.
For a Mac GPU monitor see http://www.atpurpose.com/atMonitor/
The link is fixed now.
OpenGL Driver Monitor (in the Developer tools) can give a pretty detailed picture of GPU usage.
OpenGL Driver Monitor has a GUI... it's just complicated as heck.
oh great tip thanks, so im guessing the program would use the OpenGL Driver Monitor, but just give a GUI output??
EXCELLENT!! thankyou times a billion! how does it even monitor GPU usage? and how does FPS work.. is it an average or something?
atMonitor uses the same APIs as "OpenGL Driver Monitor" and it's a stand alone application. It is not a GUI on top of "OpenGL Driver Monitor"
You can quickly launch "OpenGL Driver Monitor" from atMonitor's "Utilities->Launch" menu in case you need more detailed GPU info.
The FPS is the instantaneous FPS, and not an average, sampled at 1 second intervals.
[EDIT: oh and btw my GPU usage isnt working anymore![]()
Would you mind sending an email to bugs@atpurpose.com explaining what happened? You can use the atMonitor's "Beta->Submit a bug report" menu as a shortcut. And if you could attach your System's profile, or at least the part of it that shows your GPU info, then that would be great.
Is this app working for any Mac Pro Nehalem users? The GPU section is not working on a MP Nehalem with ATI 4870.
