Hi all, I've got a 2008 3,1 8-core Mac Pro 3Ghz with a GTX 285 Mac Edition graphics card. I'm looking at upgrading for better performance in REDCine-X Pro and Davinci Resolve but I'm confused at what specs will give me better performance in those apps and which would be most seamlessly compatible with OSX.
I'm currently looking at:
Nvidia GTX 660 or 660 ti (I think the 660ti is more compatible with OSX?)
AMD 7950 or R9 280 (I think these are essentially the same card)
I've settled on these options mostly because of price and power consumption. What confuses me is that the gaming benchmarks are mostly parallel but the Compute performance of the AMD cards far exceed those of the NVIDIA cards, but I'm unclear as to what I should look for as a performance guide with pro video apps and whether AMD's superior OpenCL performance is outweighed or evened out by NVIDIA's CUDA implementation in those apps.
The GTX 660 is particularly attractive because it only takes 1x6 pin power connector, so I could probably put two in my tower for double the CUDA processing in Resolve or REDCine-X. Or at least that's my thinking.
Ugh, headache. Any help would be appreciated!
