Grace Period for MacBook Pro?

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro through my school, (I knew the new ones were coming out but the MBP was included with tuition) and i've heard over and over about Apple's supposed "grace period" for people who purchase products right before new models are released.

Are these grace periods for real? Has anyone ever gone through with? If so, how does it work?

I already tried searching for it so don't get mad at a newbie.

It is 14 days from the date of purchase. There is a line on your receipt that states the date.
