So my 2008 macbook 5.1 is not having gradual backlight increase/decraese. While my friend's 2.4GHz C2D MBP 13" does, we both run 10.6.7 [well um, his is 10.6.6]

Btw, mine does not have backlit keyboard, so somebody else have to do this.

It's like mine goes brighter by a notch, but his goes brighter smoothly (like the ambient light sensor is dimmed)

I did a reinstall and it still didn't do the trick.

Here's a thread on MR: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/834086/

You can hold down opt+shift and the backlight/keyboard light key to do this, problem is that you have to do it manually and it decreases/increases 1/5 of the light.

The newer model support going brighter/dimmer by a notch but slowly/smoothly.

I want to enable this, because it looks good :p

Seeing Cidori's method of enabling TRIM in non-Apple SSD by patching the KEXT file, it seems that it is possible to do it on backlight too.

Using GGJ's method of deleting an app fully, I found the backlight KEXT.

Problem is; I cannot open it and I'm a noob at these things :/

Does anybody have experience in doing this?

I can put my KEXT file as a download.

And lastly, can somebody contact Cidori?

Thanks
