I'm not sure how low on the hardware pole one can go, but on my base spec Mac Mini M4, I'm having an absolute BLAST emulating PS2 and specifically Gran Turismo 4 Spec II.

This is a full mod of the original with updated textures and I've added the HD UI pack.
It's gorgeous in 4k and 60fps and butter smooth. I'm playing with a PS5 controller and this is just as fun as it gets.

It's totally worth checking out if so inclined and, for me, as quelled any interest in a dedicated console for the time being.
Even though I own GT7, I don't have a PS5 currently as I just can't justify it ... and I love being able to do stuff like this on my Mac Mini instead!

Read more about it here: https://www.theadmiester.co.uk/specii/

I ended up downloading a ready to go ISO that had the Mod already applied.

You can go pretty low these days. It's fully playable on ~$150 Retro handhelds these days like the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. Not 4K with mods, but hey portable GT4 which is what I dreamed the mediocre PSP version would be.

For sure.. I meant with 4k+mods and keeping 60fps.

In any case, what a great game.
It's absolutely loaded with content and progression to work through, all fully built in and no online BS required, etc.

I hate where modern games have gone in that respect.

I prefer this to GT5/GT6 (via emulation) as PS3 is so much more fiddly and resource intensive to get working.

I was really excited for Forza Motorsport (AKA Forza 8) a couple years ago since I went Xbox over PS5, but yeah I think I'd rather play GT4/5/6 too. MS really bungled that one.
