Earlier this week, it was reported that Apple was set to announce its grand opening plans for its massive new Grand Central Terminal retail store today, with rumors suggesting that Apple would open the store this Friday or "shortly thereafter".

Mashable now reports that construction workers at the site have indicated that a significant amount of work still remains to be done and that the opening "won't be any time too soon."
Although many anticipated that Apple would open its Grand Central Terminal store in New York City before Black Friday, construction workers at the location confirmed on Tuesday that it won't be ready in time. The store, opening in the highly-trafficked commuter terminal, will be Apple's largest retail venue.

"It won't be any time too soon," a construction worker at the site told Mashable. "We still have a lot to do, so my guess is that it will be ready in December."
Early reports had targeted a mid-November opening for the project as Apple rushed to try to have the store open by the start of the busy holiday shopping season, but it appears that the company will not meet that goal. The company had been pursing an aggressive four-month buildout schedule made possible by the fact that major alterations to the building's structure are not permitted, but it seems that there still is some work left to be done.

Lol. By my calendar, this friday is 11/25, basically one week from "December". I think saying "it won't be anytime soon" isn't exactly the most accurate, if they are making claims for December (which it should be, no one opens retail stores post holiday season - though Apple claims they have no true dead season).

Why fight all the congestion and traffic? Just go online and order. I don't think they laser engrave at the store anyway.

There is an article on FoxNews.com saying it could be open sooner than what the construction guys are saying. Doesnt sound like anyone knows but Apple.

If only Apple had some other nifty NYC store that just finished construction and is open for business 24/7, 365...

The largest? Really? If that is the space I'm thinking of (that used to be a pair of smallish restaurants) it couldn't be anywhere near their largest store.

Although having said that, I realize:

A - I never went back into the kitchens of either restaurant - they may have been huge

B - I'm assuming there are some pretty large apple stores from the photos posted here - but maybe they're shot in wide angle or something.

For the love of Jebus, please stop with the main page stories about every single Apple Store opening or window washing. All Apple Stores are the same! Nobody should care about this "news".

But this is New York we already have more than enough (Apple) stores. Let alone in ONE Borough. Lol. Imagine what people will say when an Apple store opens in Brooklyn.

What Apple is washing a store's windows!!! Where? When? Will there be a line! Oh my Gawd this is the best thing Ever!!! But if they don't offer enough streaklessness I'm going to never buy anything from Apple ever again! Cuz you know there are a dozen Android manufacturers that...oh wait... They never wash their windows. Never mind.

I'm sure a carpenter's union that has an exclusive on any labor done at Grand Central is cashing in on this too.

Them and many other unions. The rules to get anything done in NYC are insane. Luckily, the rest of the country only has some of those problems.

Insane I tell you. Insane.

Makes you wonder if taking out the World Trade Centers was a good start that was halted by union firefighters.
