You all know how we love to tinker with applications. How about Grapher? I'm doing that as we speak. I have this frikken equation that is going take over an hour (90 minutes now) to figure out the Implicit surface. If you know Integration, you'll understand this, here's the equation (its 3d by the way):

z = the integral from -x to y dy (3z^3 - 2 sin^3 (x+tan(y))-18xy)

Think of other fun equations - this would be good for a CPU test/Burn in.

how do i put it in? i tried copying that formula into grapher and it gave me half a dozen errors

my G4 iMac (see sig for specs) is saying it will need about 3 hours (and rising) to finish drawing it! I hope it turns out nice.

EDIT: Gone down to 90 mins in a couple of minutes. hmm...

that is the grossest integral I've ever seen.

I'm going to have nightmares about it.

yes, I really have had a dream about math. It was scary.

hmm... visually, its nothing terribly inspiring... almost a bit sad that it took that long to compile something that looks like it.

Agreed. Definitely an anticlimax. :(

It did show me how inaccurate Grapher's ETA counter is though. It ended up taking about fifteen minutes or so but it gave me anything between two minutes and two hours at random intervals throughout the process.

you could always do it by hand for more mind tumbling fun!

Just did it on my Mac mini....in sig....took about 20 minutes. I'm not sure what I'm looking at though.

Here are the first two:
z = the integral from 0 to 0 of that thing = 0 right? ok
z = the integral from 0 to 1 of dy (3z^3 - 2 sin^3 (x+tan(y))-18xy) - so what would that be?
F(z) = 3/4z^4 - 2/4 sin^4(1/2 x^2+(1/sqr_root(y^2-1))... oh I can't do that.
