Hello guys,
I have an iMac 20" from late 2007 with an ATi Radeon HD2400XT and a Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz processor. Yeah, I know, this thing is pretty old (but gets Mavericks so can't be too old though!) Now there is a problem with the graphics driver or card. Sometimes my Mac simply freezes, I can move the cursor and I hear all the sounds going on but can't do anything on the screen. Using Windows via Boot Camp though, this never happens; instead, two or three times since I installed Windows 8 in January, the screen became black and instantly back on with the message "AMD video card drivers stopped working, restored successfully". So Windows seems to auto-restore the graphics card if it fails, which I assume is the same problem I also have in OS X but with a better solution. Is there any way to achieve a similar behavior in OS X? I cannot continuously force-reboot my Mac because it suddenly freezes but I am not willing to replace the card; as you can see Windows can handle the failures easier...
