graphics card reset on retina?

i plug my retina into a cinema display every night. once i unplug it the next day, and use it directly.. after doing that, ui actions get incredibly laggy, and if left uncorrected i eventually get a kernel panic. going into settings and toggling to a different resolution then coming back to the current seems to fix everything.

anyone else seeing this? i run it at the full scaled res, btw (the 1920 equiv)
