I'm trying to thread the needle here for a graphics card that both supports the newer NVENC (So Nvidia) required by OBS to use hardware acceleration and has metal support for the newer MacOS versions. Mac Pro 5,1. I have two Magewell Pro Capture HDMI pci cards. These need newer than High Sierra. I have them working in a Monterey install at present. I discovered that their driver conflicts with the Nvdia web drver for High Serra for the GTX 1080 as well. So... not that one. My GTX 780 is good but the NVENC is too old for OBS.
I'm listening if the recommendation is a different broadcast app. Something that allows scene switching between 8 -10 cameras? Using a MIDI translator app to communicate that t BS at present. Apparently Apple and Nvidia are not getting along and there is no support for hardware acceleration in MacOS with newer video cards.
I'm not sure what version of NVENC OBS requires. The Nvidia 700 series cards include this but it's not recognized by OBS. I haven't found the versions they support on their webpage yet.
Is there a video card that both supports a new enough version of NVENC and supports Metal for MacOS? I don't game. I don't need to do anything with Windows (or want to). I'd consider some Linux install if that offered a solution not available any other way.
Probably better to consider some different broadcast app that might have hardware acceleration working on more than a couple isolated cards from one manufacturer, right? Then just get an AMD card that's a good fit?
I don't necessarily have to have pre boot screen support either. That's not a hard requirement. Hardware acceleration to take some heat off the CPU for encoding for streaming would be welcome. The compression encoding required for the broadcast stream is a 60% CPU hit with no hardware accl. Seems lke an appropriate video card would be justified here.
Thanks!
