Hi,

I did not know this, but i downloaded Mac Fan Control on my Mac Pro 2010 5.1 running Yosemite 10.10.4 and noticed 2 things:

  • macs Fan Control 1.4.10 shows that the PCI min/current/max RPM is: 800 - 0 - 4500 (I assume this means the fan is not running? so does this mean its failed and needs replacing ? (I assume its an easy change) ?
  • My PCIE Slot 1 was running at 98/99degrees whilst the other was sitting at 80.
Both old graphics cards are: ATI Radeon HD 5770 1MB (I think the originals).
  • Monitor 1: GFX1: Temp: 80C Old monitor of 1440x800 runs grapics card at 80 degrees.
  • Monitor 2: GFX2: Temp: 99C New HD Graphics Card.
If i switch the monitors round so Monitor 2 is on GFX 1 and Monitor 1 is on GFX 2, the temperatures swap round.
  • I also noticed if i put both monitors into the same gfx the temperature stays also at 99C.

So, i assume from this that the graphics cards will run hotter, but is 99degree normal for a GFX ?

And so to the questions:
  • Is 99Degrees normal ?
  • Has my PCI Fan failed and easy to replace ?
    • Will it reduce the temperature
  • Should I be looking at a new graphics card(s) and if so what?
Any information offers accepted :)

Thank you in advance

Michael

Just open the side panel and look at the fan (when the cMP is ON). If the PCIe fan is spinning, then it's working.

If the numbers are always 80 and 99 but nothing else. Then I am 100% sure they are erroneous reading. You can ignore it.

If the GPU is 99C, you should hear the 5770's fan run like a jet engine, you can't miss that noise.
