Does anyone know how much Mavericks will improve upon graphics performance in something like games? I know that OpenGL has been updated to 4.1, but will it increase fps or anything of that sort?

This is not directly related but in mavericks i have OpenGL 3.3 core whereas in ML i have 3.2. Is Apple keeping complete 4.0 and 4.1 from my 4850M card?

The 4850's hardware doesn't support key DirectX 11 / OpenGL 4.x level features - tessellation shaders are the big one. Apple isn't keeping it from you.

If you download the OpenGL Extensions Viewer you'll be able to see exactly what parts of OpenGL are supported on your system. It's likely many (but not all) of 4.0 and 4.1's features are supported for you.

Most aren't. I already installed it, how else do you think I would know i have a 3.0 + core bro?

My card Geforce 8600M GT supports OpenGL 3.3, but now I'm at 2.1. Does this mean that Nvidia needs to update the drivers?

Ubuntu 13.10 Can Outperform OS X 10.9 "Mavericks" On Intel OpenGL :
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=osx_109_mavericksgl&num=3

Not really relevant to the OP's queries...

On topic, I've read from multiple people that game performance has improved in almost all cases. The big boost is really from the better graphics drivers in Mavericks. The UI performance improvements are apparently because the UI is GPU-accelerated in Mavericks, whereas it's not in previous versions of OS X.

1. it's for Intel outdated HD3000 graphics only (noone knows for sure for more recent graphics by nVidia, for example)
2. 10.9 haven't been released yet, so it's all premature I beleive.
1. Intel drivers are better optimized under Linux as OS X.
Nvidia and ATI are optimized for Windows, it may change with ATI (with the new Mac Pro).
2. I hope so.
3. Finally, Nvidia releases new drivers for Windows and Linux that supports OpenGL 4.4: https://developer.nvidia.com/opengl-driver

Yeah, I wish Apple would provide the best possible support and the most performant implementation of OpenGL 4.4 by Mavericks release.
But not gonna happen, I beleive.
