Could anybody recommend a graphics tablet for a person who has never owned or used one?. I really don't have much of a clue about graphics tablets but would like to learn to use them so one which a beginner could use but also one which somebody with experience could use would be nice.

hmm £500?

If that's the case I'd just go for the best:

A Medium or Large Wacom Intuos 4 wireless. Should be around £300 on eBay or Amazon.

I've got the medium wired version and it's excellent, sadly there was no wireless model when I bought mine.

Here's the Amazon link

I second the recommendation. I have the Intuos4 Medium and it's wonderful. It's also my first tablet as well.

Depending on your style of drawing or whatever and the size of the monitor, that's what will determine the size tablet you should get. Sometimes I think I should have gotten the small since I like to draw in small strokes...but then in most situations I like the medium size.
