When my iMac heats up after an hour or so of use, a very high pitched whistling noise starts up. It's somewhere around 17,000 Hz. It is constant, and it drives me up the wall. Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks in advance.

There are 3 things I can think of which might be causing this - the hard drive, the power supply, or the monitor itself.

You can easily check if its the hard drive by booting into classic or OS9 and manually spinning down the hard disk. If the sound stops, then you know the drive is the problem, and you can easily replace it yourself if you want.

If its not the HDD, then you'd have to get it checked out by someone at Apple.
