This is an obscure question, but does anyone have a screen-cap of the gray Apple-logo startup screen?

I need to examine some pixels.

If you're testing for dead pixels, just Google "test for dead pixels" and you'll find several sites you can use, without having to install anything.

Oh noes! Not literally. I wanted to figure out the percentage of gray. Thanks for the pixel checker, though.

By examining pixels, I meant using the dropper in Photoshop. My bad.

In that case, Google "gray startup screen" and click Images at the top to go to Google Images. You'll see several.

Before you ask, Google! :D

I think the conversion to JPG or whatever made the gray a bit darker. I wish I could just find the wallpaper they used in the System Library somewhere. Argh! :D

My guess is that theyve used a screen_command to fill in a specific grey, then show the apple logo centre'd.

If you use the starup screen manager - it has the original logo in its package so you can at least eye-drop the little apple part - for the other bit I cant help really.

Startup screen manager? Can you recommend any for Leopard? Thanks.

I somehow knew it was a code thing instead of a conventional wallpaper.

Ill do better than that....

(remember I am using Leopard) but here is the startup graphic I use - the background is the grey used to fill the screen.

Hope this helps you :)
