This is a pretty great deal good through the 26th. Dell XPS 15" 4K touchscreen; 2.2GHz 6-core; GTX 1050 Ti, 1TB SSD; 32GB RAM for $1,849. It has a usable port configuration too -- 2xUSB 3.1 Gen1 PD, one thunderbolt, headphone jack, HDMI 2.0, SD card reader, and fingerprint reader. No dongles required. The equivalent MBP is $3,350 on sale at B&H.

I've been a die-hard Mac fan for >20 years, but I need ports and a reliable keyboard for my (often dusty) work in the field. My coworker is on his 4th keyboard on a 2017 MBP. My 2012 MBP is fading out. I gave up on the Mac desktop line a while back after many years without updates; replaced it with a dual boot hackintosh which is super fast, expandable, and upgradeable. I find myself booting into Windows more than MacOS these days for a variety of reasons. All of my data is synced between different OS and systems using Resilio and Dropbox, so it's easy to switch around.

I was very excited about the new Mac Mini but then I began to wonder whether this is a new commitment to desktop users or just another one-off update followed by more years of neglect. Not to mention the pricing. I'm really torn on my drift toward the dark side, but I think I've lost confidence in Apple's long-term vision. It seems their whole model is based on selling glued appliances and mandatory accessories with as much lock-in to their walled garden and subscription services as they think users will tolerate. A 5w charger on a $1,500 phone - really??? Want to charge it as designed? - here's a $39 adapter. Want to charge it with your new MBP? - here's a $35 cable. The list goes on and on. I guess I'm a Homebuilt (desktop), Dell (Laptop), and Pixel(phone) user now. Definitely didn't see that coming 5 years ago...

That Dell sounds like a great machine!

You’re not alone. Leaving Mac and iPad wasn’t my first choice either
