B&H Photo has new 2016 15" MacBook Pros starting at $1799. That's $50 less than the refurbished price on Apple.com.

I guess this also answers the question about how well the 2016 MBPs sold. They've been available virtually every day on the refurbished store, and now it looks like Apple is dumping some more unsold machines.

Bunch of speculation

It's true! Because Apple doesn't release individual sales numbers, I don't know how well the 2016 MBPs actually sold.
However, as someone who constantly watches the refurbished store and the other major retailers for deals, I can say that popular Apple products don't last long on sale. Ever since the 2017 MBP was released, you could buy almost any configuration of the 2016 MBP you wanted on the refurbished store. Now a major retailer is selling brand new 2016 MBPs at less than refurbished price. Do you think maybe Apple didn't sell as many as they thought they would?

I just don't think they are pricing the 2016 models as low as they need to in the refurbished store.

It's really hard to recommend a 2016 model versus the 2017.
