Hi everyone,
I would like to compile a list of great songs/tunes for using in home movies; vacations, family, birthdays, etc.
I love Daughter, by Loudon Wainwright III (if you have a daughter!:D - I have a son, though)
What other songs would are great for using in movies?

From working at a small production house for 2 years, my experience for these types of videos is that people love "Good riddance" by Green day, "Beautiful day" by U2, "in my life" by The Beatles...the best suited for you would be "Beautiful Boy" by John Lennon. Tjhe only caviat is that if people are talking in these videos, you may want to go with instrumentals, bbecause the singer's voice often drowns out what is said on the video...

The entire soundtrack to "Collateral" (dir. Michael Mann)
Chris Joss' "You've Been Spiked" album (GREAT retro stuff)
Ocean's 11 and 12 soundtrack
Catch Me If You Can soundtrack
Aerosmith, Just Push Play and Fly Away From Here
Death Proof soundtrack (great for video of my brother-in-law's classic car collection)
Desperado soundtrack
Billy Joel, "Lullaby"

There are more of course, but this is a pretty diverse list. :) Main thing is to tell a story. Going to Disney World? Use a song from Main Street. Going to the beach? Beach boys (one of the lesser known ones). First trip with the child somewhere? "Come Fly With Me", Frank Sinatra. 5yr old birthday party? "Time Of Your Life" by Randy Newman (from A Bug's Life)

Chilli Peppers - hump da bump.

if it's good enough for steve to use on his voyeuristic skiing trip video....

A good one

My first video for my newborn son, IMO, was made spectacular by Creed's "Arms Wide Open". It was quite an experience doing the video, complete with chills and tears almost every time I watch it....but I'm sure there's some fatherly attachment that helped that right along.
