I have the original iPad and I really enjoy it. I suspect that when the fourth-generation iPad comes out next year I'll replace my first-gen one with it. Does anyone have any cool ideas for how to repurpose an old iPad for specific functions?

Bathroom IPad!

How about the Kitchen? Recipes, shopping list, to-do lists, streaming media while cooking. Get a wall mount for it? If you have IP cameras, you can keep them viewable on it too.

1. Sell it while it's still relatively relevant
2. Donate it to an inner city school
3. Photo frame
4. Virtual aquarium
5. Virtual fireplace
6. Load it up with a looping copy of Scarface and make it the ultimate coke mirror
7. Webcam outside the door, iPad mounted inside the house; instant modern peephole
8. Videotape a ferocious dog growling at the camera. Permanently mount iPad to your front door. Loop video. No more burglars.
9. Small soft light surce for macro photography.
10. Build a big plexiglass dance floor. Mount iPad underneath facing upwards. Play slideshow of pretty colors. Add another old ipad every few years. Eventually open your own disco.

Is it just me, or is it a little early to be using a device that was $500+ just two years ago as a virtual aquarium?

I completely agree, apple fanboys find no value in a item that is old, need to have the newest to be the ultimate hipster.

Pretty sure he was joking about it. You see how his points got even more weirder (and awesome-er) as the numbers got up.

And some people don't like selling their old products, so I guess if someone out there really uses an iPad as a permanent virtual aquarium, then,
1: They have this problem, where they can't throw things out, and will often find mindless reasons to keep it. I forgot what it's called.
2: They need help.
3: They have too much money.
4: They simply like to collect stuff.

Although putting it on virtual aquarium or fireplace..is just stupid..

Photo frame I understand..but Virtual Aquarium..? What?

Hoarder.

Sell it.

Somebody who wants to provide it a good home will buy it and you will have money for your next toy.

Or if you can afford to, give it away. Make someones day.

I recently wiped my iPad 1 and donated it to the local children's hospital. I also gave them a $50 iTunes gift card to put some kids apps on it. Kids in the hospital need all the distractions they can get. And many of the parents can't afford to provide much.

That's nobel, and a very good cause. All my old Mac stuff gets donated...Things we take for granted are gold dust to folks who can't afford them.

I'll be using mine as a second monitor mostly. And probably for my kids around the house.
It worked great using it with SBP as a second monitor to keep all my brushes on the iPad screen and canvas on main screen, or doing music etc.

Use it as a secret journal with an unbreakable passcode. Use it for affairs, planning major crimes, and school crushes. Your data will be safe!
